THE Queen is to visit Shropshire as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations for the county’s biggest-ever Royal party.
And children from the Oswestry area will get the chance to be part of a spectacular moving pageant with more than 5,000 telling the story of the county.
Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh will lead a huge crowd at a day-long pageant at RAF Cosford on July 12 celebrating her 60-year-reign.
The big day – free for anyone who registers at www .shropshirejubilee.co.uk – will be the biggest royal event ever staged in Shropshire and a stunning centrepiece to the
county’s jubilee celebrations.
Her Majesty’s representative in Shropshire, Lord Lieutenant Algernon Heber-Percy said: “It will be a unique opportunity for the county to thank Her Majesty for the exceptional dedication and leadership she has given us over the last 60 years.”
The big day will also mark 60 years of Shropshire history. The brightest and best of the county’s industrial, commercial and agricultural expertise will be showcased in an indoor exhibition. The achievements of voluntary and charitable bodies will also have pride of place.
