Town gets set for its own fun and Games

OSWESTRY is gearing up for its own version of the Olympics.

Oswestry Community Games, or Oslympics as it is known, will be taking place in clubs and venues across the town from tomorrow (Friday), until July 15 in celebration of the London 2012 Games.

Organisers have been working for about two years to prepare for the event which will see more than 50 different activities hosted by local clubs and organisations over the nine days.

A programme contains words by Dave Moorcroft, who represented Great Britain at three Olympic Games and will visit Oswestry for the games.

He says: “I am delighted to have been asked to write a few words in support of the Oswestry Games.”

He adds he has followed the progress of the Oswestry Games over the last couple of years and wishes the town success with the event.

Programmes are available at the leisure centre in Shrewsbury Road, the tourist information centre at Mile End and the library.

Susie Hancock, one of the organisers, said: “The Oswestry Games has grown into a great, exciting festival of sports and the arts to celebrate the Olympics. The Oswestry Games is your chance to try these activities, or watch the experts.”
